Housing For New Hope Announces New Executive Director
Russell Pierce is named the new Executive Director of Housing for New Hope, a nonprofit whose mission is to end homelessness one valuable person at a time.
"After a very thorough and discerning search, the Board of Directors is excited to welcome Russ to the helm of this wonderful organization at a critical time in the life of our city. We look forward to the ways that he will lead Housing for New Hope into the future and impact our clients and community with his passion, insights, and gifts.” said Katie Crowe, Board Chair. “Russ brings extensive executive leadership skills and experience developing large nonprofit agencies both locally and globally. He also has heart for people that will serve our tremendous staff and those we seek to serve very well.”
A North Carolina native, Pierce holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University, a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University, and a Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. Prior to joining Housing For New Hope, Pierce led the creation of a new marketing, communications, and fundraising unit for Global Ministries, the 200-year old mission agency of the United Methodist Church, along with its relief and development subsidiary, UMCOR. He joined the staff in 2017 following three years with Church World Service, the ecumenical relief, development, and refugee services agency.
“I am honored by the invitation to serve as the next Executive Director of Housing for New Hope,” Pierce said. “Housing for New Hope has a well-earned reputation for providing compassionate and innovative services to our unsheltered and vulnerable neighbors in Durham. I look forward to working with our staff, Board, and partners to build on that strong foundation and increase our ability to provide housing, hope and services that lead to stability and success for vulnerable members of our community.”
After a career characterized by moves to several states and international travel, Pierce and his family are delighted for the opportunity to lay down roots and make Durham home. Housing for New Hope invites the community to meet Pierce at an open house on May 17, when the organization will celebrate the completion of Holloway Place, a workforce housing initiative for single women.
Russ’ tenure will begin on the heels of a fruitful interim season led by board members and Co-Interim Executive Directors Chip Dudney and Dr. Beverly Ford. Said Crowe, “Beverly and Chip tithed their time and expertise in a way that we could not possibly repay but will be forever shaped by and grateful for. We are in a strong position as we christen this next chapter of leadership, and are enthusiastic and deeply hopeful for all that is to come.”
