    Housing for New Hope’s Executive Director Steps Away to Join Durham Housing Authority

    Housing for New Hope (HNH) announces today that Olive Joyner has officially resigned from her position as Executive Director, effective June 8, 2018. Joyner will commence the next chapter of her career as Resident Services Director for Durham Housing Authority.  In this role, she will continue her personal mission of strengthening existing partnerships and building new ones that will provide critical support to empower individuals and families seeking self-sufficiency.

     

    During Joyner’s tenure at HNH, she has furthered the organization’s mission by increasing the number of families served while refining the programs offered to the community. Under her leadership HNH has continued to hone efficient and effective strategies for serving the homeless population and advancing the goal of ending homelessness in Durham County. Joyner has also led a talented and dedicated team, each of whom plays an important role in the everyday operations of HNH and in the lives of those they serve. 

     

    “While Olive’s departure is bittersweet,” says Board Chair Katie Crowe, “We are excited about the way that her new opportunity will strengthen our partnership with the Durham Housing Authority and strategically position her to impact our city’s homeless services system.  Olive will play a vital role in equipping and empowering individuals and families who desire to move out of the supportive housing structure of DHA and into the marketplace. As DHA residents experience a successful transition to new communities, needed housing opportunities will become available to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Her role will support the flourishing of DHA residents, future residents, and Durham’s network of care in a vital way.”

     

    Joyner leaves HNH in a very strong position and poised for future growth. Connie Haines, Director of Finance, and Rikki Gardner, Director of Operations, will oversee fiscal and program delivery while the seasoned Board of Directors immediately starts their search for a new Executive Director.  Two HNH Board members will work closely with Connie and Rikki to ensure program continuity and fiscal oversight, in particular. HNH is pleased to have former Board Chair Dr. Beverly Ford, who has over 30 years of experience training and developing human services leaders across the country, and former Board Treasurer Chip Dudney, who has over 30 years in the commercial banking industry, working alongside our executive staff.  

     

    The Board of Directors sincerely thanks Olive for her contributions and leadership during her tenure as Executive Director and looks forward to continuing to work together to prevent and end homelessness in Durham.
