Position Description: Marketing & Communications Coordinator




Housing for New Hope prevents and ends homelessness by providing access to housing, healthcare and integrated services in the Durham community. We currently have an opening for a Marketing and Communications Coordinator within our Development Team.



The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting the organization in the development and implementation of its marketing, social media, and public relations plans.


Reports to: Development Director



  • Expert in telling the HNH story.  Work collaboratively with staff to gather success stories and communicate them through a variety of channels to include video, blog, photography, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of branding.

  • Reach out to community organizations, general public, and donors with the message about HNH’s mission to prevent and end homelessness

  • Update and maintain HNH’s social media presence, including posting and scheduling Facebook updates, events, and tracking engagement of followers, regularly posting on Twitter, Instagram, and various other methods of digital branding following the organization’s communication plan and guidelines

  • Collaborate with the Development Director in planning, writing, and managing monthly eNewsletter

  • Draft, distribute, and pitch news releases, media alerts, and other stories to be approved by the Development Director and the chair of the board’s Marketing Committee

  • Design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material for major events hosted by HNH following the brand guidelines

  • Update the HNH website as needed (Wix is the current platform)

  • Attend and report Marketing updates at monthly marketing committee meeting 

  • Identify and call local businesses to promote educational opportunities about HNH

  • Develop a social media plan specific to each campaign launched

  • Coordinate and implement marketing campaigns, including, direct mail, email, networking, social media, etc.

  • Event support – organization and planning through implementation and follow-up

  • Maintain database of supporter contacts in an organized and detailed manner

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications or closely related field

  • Self-motivated; strong organizational skills; detail-oriented; ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and follow-up skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Experience with Google Analytics preferred

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media and digital space

  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite); proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), web development and maintenance, knowledge of HTML, and graphic design highly desired

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Housing for New Hope and the people we serve

  • Networking connections in the Durham community is a plus.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and abilities. Benefits package offered.



Salary Range: $38,000 - $46,000
