What is your interest in affordable housing/homelessness services? Why do you feel the work HNH does is important?
Our homeless population is largely misunderstood, under-respected, and often invisible. We often see “homeless” instead of the personality, perseverance, passion, history, kindness, and the current circumstances behind this homelessness. We are one Durham. Together. We all need to live life with our eyes wide open to the whole person and Housing For New Hope does this in spades. Not only do they find more permanent housing solutions for our Durham vulnerable, but they walk alongside, offering services that will ensure that they have their very greatest chance to stay housed. People often don’t realize that a roof over your head is one of the easier steps – the myriad of services that come after is where the long-term difference is made. I hope you will join me in raising awareness for what Housing For New Hope does and make a contribution today to help our Durham homeless population.
What is your favorite thing to do in Durham/love the most about our city?
The authenticity, pride, engagement, and partnerships of Durham’s residents are some of the qualities that set our city apart. But we have so much more! I count myself lucky to eat in the restaurants and get lost in its woods. Toast’s soup of the day and The Eno River can fix just about anything.
