Terry Allebaugh Testifies Before the United States Senate
On Tuesday, May 8, Housing for New Hope executive director Terry Allebaugh was in Washington, D.C., to testify before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. He was accompanied by program director and alumnus Alphonso Williams.
Invited by Senator Richard Burr to speak at the Committee hearing, "Transforming Mental Health and Substance Abuse Systems of Care: Community Integration and Recovery," Mr. Allebaugh testified to support the authorization of $80 million in federal money to fund a new bill called the Services for Ending Long-Term Homelessness Act.
Mr. Allebaugh told the Committee, "Piecemeal services, congregate shelters, and spare change do not lead to transformative systems of care. Homeless people...need real services that are comprehensive...They need real change, not spare change."
